Letter to My Unborn Daughter

unborn daugther

Dear Daughter,

I wonder what you will look like…

Will you inherit your grandma’s long hair?

Will you smile with your eyes like I do?

Will you be musically inclined like your grandad or will you play sports like your great-grandad?

I’m chuckling at the thought of you being short like me. Either way, you’ll always be perfect in my eyes – fearfully and wonderfully designed by the most exquisite Creator.

I don’t even know what your name will be yet, but one thing is certain; I will love you with all my heart.

You should know by now that though there is a lot of good in the earth, there is also evil.

The Bible – which is your lifeline – clearly teaches that we will have tribulations, most of which I wish I could protect you from. However, I know you can overcome them; here are a few tips on how to do so…

Build Relationships.

Family and true friends paint the world with vibrant colours so it is paramount for you to pursue genuine relationships. Remember that all relationships will go through challenges because it is those we love and trust that we give the power to hurt us. You must learn that although forgiveness requires more power, it is beneficial for your peace.

Dream Big and Take Risks.

Ellen Johnson Sirleaf (the first elected African female president… which is a pretty big deal!) said; ‘If your dreams do not scare you, they are not big enough.

So what makes your heart burn? Does it scare you and excite you at the same time? That’s called passion. Do not be afraid to try and fail. Your scars do not define you; rather, they strengthen you and reassure others that no matter who we are, no one is isolated in their struggles.

Educate Yourself.

Albert Einstein said, “Intellectual growth should commence at birth and cease only at death.” While your dad and I will pay lots of money to put you through school, it is important for you to realize that education should not be limited to the four corners of your classroom. Read books, watch autobiographies, learn new languages, study nature, experiment, travel the world and relate with people from diverse backgrounds. There is a lot of information available to you! You just have to be willing to seek it out.

It is a Blessing, to Be Woman.

Marriage is important but it’s not your purpose in life. Although society might try to teach you otherwise, you are not limited because you are a woman. You are capable, you are unique, and there is so much potential within you. You were intricately designed for a purpose that only you can fulfill so if you struggle in this area, Mummy is always here for you to talk with.

Speak Positive Words Over Your Life.

You can create your environment just by the words you speak; so make sure you deposit good words in your heart for you to speak them about yourself and others.

With all these vital tips, dear loved one, the most important thing to do on earth is to

Develop a Close and Personal Relationship with God.

He proved His perfect and complete love for you by sending His only Son, Jesus, to die for your sins. This means you never have to presume, pretend or put up an act with Him.

If your Sunday school teachers haven’t already taught you the “Prayer is the key” song, your dad and I will teach you.

Prayer is not a back-up plan darling; it is the master key that opens doors. The meaning and purpose of your life will become clear as you continue to walk with God.

So everything in your life should revolve around God; let God be your core.

This is the greatest secret to a fulfilled life – a life that has a lasting impact now on earth, and in eternity.

There is so much more that I want to write to you, but my darling, always remember:

You are perfectly loved by a perfect God.

You are beautiful, so count all your blessings,

You are important, so be conscious of every moment,

And you are not less, so live each day with purpose and vision❤

I have no doubt that you will be a strong woman – you come from a lineage of them.

As I lie in bed thinking about you, my lovely daughter, so many thoughts keep running through my head…

I simply can’t wait to meet you.
